Mirror of the World

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you." - Matthew 6:33

I want to be just like that. Seven normal words that form a deadly sentence whenever they are put together. The words that make us think we should strive to look different than we look now. Whether it be the waist and flat stomach of a model, smaller shoulders, different hair, flawless skin, or any number of other things we consume our minds with. We are constantly trying to perfect our image and the way others see us. But you know what, none of those things mean anything. Who cares if your eyes are the perfect shade of blue or that your hair is the ‘perfect’ length? That may seem like something people expect you to have. But in all reality, there’s only one person’s opinion you should seek after. He thinks you’re beautiful no matter what you’re wearing.

He doesn’t care that you can’t afford the newest American Eagle outfit. And He executed the ultimate sacrifice so that you never have to pay the ultimate penalty for your sins. You know what His name is? Jesus, the Creator of the world and everything in it, including you. And everything He creates is perfect in His eyes. So if He created you, that mean you’re perfect in His eyes, and you shouldn’t fret about what you’re going to wear to school tomorrow or whether or not the hot guy in AP Bio will like your shade of lip gloss. Because you’re perfect in the eyes of the only one who’s opinion you should think about, Jesus’. So the next time you find yourself criticizing God’s masterpiece, just remember who you are and why you were put on this earth. It wasn’t to impress your friends or to pass your college classes, it was to bring others to God and do everything to bring honor and glory to His name, which includes appreciating everything He gave you.
